A directly enrolled individual caregiver can be a good fit for families who want to manage the provider relationship themselves and are comfortable handling the state’s caregiver/provider systems. Michigan says the individual caregiver is employed directly by the beneficiary and submits to Michigan Medicaid for payment.
An agency path adds an organization between the caregiver and the state billing/administrative process. Michigan notes that an agency may complete the CHAMPS enrollment application on behalf of caregivers who work for the agency. Agencies also have their own EVV, employment, payroll, training, and compliance responsibilities.
