Families often confuse client Home Help approval with caregiver provider enrollment. They are not the same. The client can have a care plan while the caregiver still has provider-side work to complete before reimbursement is possible.
Michigan’s official caregiver instructions say individual caregivers must have CHAMPS Provider Enrollment approved. The state provides MiLogin instructions, CHAMPS enrollment guides, and final-step instructions. If a caregiver already has a client who needs authorization, the final steps include contacting the beneficiary’s Adult Services Worker and participating in the required meeting.
Working with an agency can change who handles pieces of the provider enrollment and ongoing administration. Michigan explicitly notes that an agency may complete the CHAMPS enrollment application on behalf of a caregiver working for that agency.
